The Cyprus Institute’s (CyI) Imaging Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (ICACH) is developing innovative technologies and the related technical capacity to appropriately meet the needs of the study of archaeological materials and works of art in Cyprus and the broader region of the Eastern Mediterranean. ICACH is a truly interdisciplinary collaborative effort engaging research and technical expertise from both the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC) and the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of the Cyprus Institute aiming at contributing new knowledge in Cypriot and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology and Cultural Heritage. Among ICACH’s foremost activities is the use of advanced imaging applications in the documentation and visual analysis of coins.
The collaborative project with the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation concerns the implementation of RTI photography on the entire collection of the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage (Archaic to Venetian periods). Beginning with the Medieval coins of the collection, the results of the above effort will constitute the basis for the creation of a digital platform that will offer a flexible content management system for the storage and dissemination of advanced digital images from the collections of the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage.
